This fascinating video presents highlights of a joint Okinawa Karate and Chinese Kung-Fu demonstration held in Japan on December 4, 2006 at the Uehara Karate Dojo. Featured are various Okinawan karate instructors and practitioners of Chinese Kung-fu in Japan, the latter led by Tamotsu Miyahira Sensei. At the 3:10 mark, Miyahira Sensei’s excellent demonstration that will be of special interest to aikido practitioners begins.

  1. Thanks for posting this. At the 4:00 minute mark there is an empi-uchi in the midst of an irimi-nage henkawaza that I have never seen outside of our own dojo. Different flavour, different purpose, hardly Aiki (as I would understand the term) but very nice to see. It is a useful “insurance policy” to have available in randori or if one finds oneself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
