  1. Terrific, no-nonsense self-defense. No need to resort to “ki” or esoteric spiritual explanations of these techniques, just great body mechanics, a high level of sensitivity to movement, balance, and momentum. Saito was obviously a master of the highest level. Although demonstrating at slow speed under controlled conditions, there is no doubt he could have applied these in real situations. His control of the uke is phenomenal. Almost without exception, he brings uke right to the point of having to “tap,” but stops before that is necessary. Very impressive.
