This video is an excellent introduction to Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei’s videotape, “Aikido: The Power and the Basics 1.” A rather young Yamada Sensei performs a lively demonstration with an equally young Donovan Waite as uke.

I don’t understand that you introduce some masters like Yamada as direct students on O Sensei. According to your ownn reports this generation was mainly in contact with Kisshomaru. I was a time with Noro Sensei in France who was older than Yamada. He often told us O sensei when he came to the Aïkikaï, was frequently talking about mystical things which they barely understand. Sitting in seiza for long period of time, he and his friends, like Tamura, for example, were just waiting for the moment where they could stand up, and continue training.

Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei was a live-in student at the Aikikai Hombu Dojo during the late 1950s and early 1960s. The Founder, Morihei Ueshiba O-Sensei, sometimes taught at the headquarters dojo during that period. Yamada Sensei attended classes of the Founder and therefore learned directly from him.
